I was yesterday years old when I discovered that care bears were created (in the 1980s) to help people express emotions. I came to be googling care bears, brainstorming what to call my substack. Rarely during my 35 years of life have I been called the common nickname of Clare Bear; however, when reflecting on my values, I saw myself as all the care bears in human form. The result….. The reflections of a Clare Bear. I never considered myself a writer, nor did I think I’d ever write my substack, but after consistently hijacking the comments section of Ben Alexander’s “Struggling”, he suggested I create my own, so after some thought, I decided I’ll give it a crack.
For those who don’t know me, I’ve been working as a massage therapist for 15 and a half years. I’ve learnt a lot about science and people. What will be in my substack? Insight into my journey of self-discovery, personal development, and anything I feel will help others.
I want to be a real person in an internet world of filtered/photoshopped images and picture-perfect lives. I want to normalise emotion and vulnerability and help others open up and embrace them.
The ten original care bears
Bedtime Bear, Cheer Bear, Tender heart Bear, Birthday Bear, Friend Bear, Sunshine Bear, Good Luck Bear, Grumpy Bear, Love a lot Bear and Wish Bear. (I’ll need to do more research, but I believe there are about 40 Care Bears now.)
Awesome stuff Clare! Looking forward to reading and learning about what makes you tick more
